Are you struggling to find the words for what you're feeling? Do you feel stuck, overwhelmed by stress, or find that talking alone hasn't been enough?
Art Therapy is a powerful way to explore your feelings and heal from trauma, anxiety, and life's challenges. It is for everyone, not just "creatives." This is your journey to process experiences, reduce stress, and discover new strengths in a safe and supportive space.
You might find Art Therapy helpful if you:
This is a space where you can explore what feels too big to say out loud.

At Cactus Counseling & Art Therapy, you are in experienced hands. Our clinicians are trained at the highest level in the Art Therapy field, holding the Registered Art Therapist (ATR) credential.
This means we have advanced, post-graduate training specifically in using the creative process for healing. We are experts in guiding you through art-making to safely explore emotions, process trauma, and achieve your mental health goals. You can trust that you are receiving quality, professional care.
We know trying something new can feel scary. In our sessions, your comfort and safety are our top priority.
We will work together using art as a tool to meet your goals. Every session is tailored to you. You can choose to engage in art-making at your own pace. There is no pressure and no artistic skill is required. This is about your process, not creating a perfect piece of art.
We might create art while talking about your goals and challenges. You are free to follow your own creative flow, or your therapist can offer gentle guidance. The goal is to help you process your experiences on a deeper level, in whatever way feels best for you.

Engaging in Art Therapy can help you:
You don't have to have all the answers. You just have to be willing to take the first step.
We invite you to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to ask questions and see if Art Therapy is the right path for your healing.
This is a very common question! You do not need any art experience or skill. Art Therapy is about the process of expression and exploration, not the final product. It's for everyone, and your therapist will guide you every step of the way.
Talking uses the language-based parts of your brain. Art Therapy engages different parts of your mind, allowing you to access and process emotions and memories that can be hard to reach with words alone. It can help you break through feeling stuck and discover new insights.
Not at all. Art is always an option available to you, but it is never a requirement. We will always follow your lead and comfort level. Some clients use art every session, while others use it only sometimes. You are always in control.
Yes! We offer Art Therapy both in-person at our Houston studio and online via telehealth. If you come to our office, all art materials are provided for you. For online sessions, you can use anything you have at home—like a pen and paper—there is no need to buy special supplies.

Hi, I'm Shaye. I founded Cactus Counseling because I know how hard it can be to face your past trauma and feel at odds with your own body. My heart's work is in helping cycle breakers—people like you who are ready to break free from generational patterns and past pain.
I became a therapist because I’ve been where you are, and I get it. I approach this work with authenticity and compassion, fusing evidence-based care with holistic practices because I believe in healing the whole person, not just the symptoms.
My goal is to see you for who you are—not just the challenges you face—and to provide a safe, grounded space where you can finally release what's been holding you back.
You don't have to walk this path alone. Taking the first step is hard, and we're here to help. We invite you to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit and answer any questions you have. Let's work together to help you cope with life's curveballs and break those generational cycles.
